Reciprocation is the second in a series of six pieces produced by Naomi Perera & Adam Langley with the assistance of the Leeds Conservatoire 2021 Graduate Fund.

Conceived and developed during the same remote-collaboration sessions that produced the first piece in the series - Ninety Degrees - Reciprocation finds the duo taking on contrasting and alternating roles in a work that explores ideas of interchange and symmetry.
The piece opens with a percussive electronic soundscape that is gradually enveloped by legato phrases from the flute, until an abrupt switch at the halfway point; after which Naomi’s flute swaps to electronically processed, textural sounds, and Adam’s electronics reciprocate by taking over the melodic phrasing.

While the role of the flute and electronics substitute for each other at the halfway point, the two halves of the piece mirror each other structurally. Each opens with a focus on amelodic textures, which are then progressively encompassed and overwhelmed by pitched sounds.
